The Felice Chirò Foundation is starting the so-called “Pelato in rete” project based a still unknown on blockchain.

pelato in rete blockchain chirò

This is an initiative that aims to use the blockchain to record in an indelible, sequential and shareable way every step of the production chain of peeled tomatoes.

The Felice Chirò Foundation, in fact, has created the first Italian blockchain in the peeled tomatoes industry, involving various producers in the province of Foggia who are mindful of the ethics, technological innovation and quality product of the Tavoliere delle Puglie.

The objectives of the project are to combat the exploitation of labour, to act as a filter between the real Made in Italy and the false, to combat the phenomenon of the so-called Italian sounding, to make public the entire history of the peeled tomato chain, to obtain the traceability of the finished product, and to obtain a better positioning on the markets.

The blockchain-based platform will be made available to producers and a processing company, who will use it to document and certify the entire history of the product’s production chain.

In this way, all the protagonists of the supply chain will ensure transparency and knowledge of the data coming from the production cycle, from cultivation to the process of transformation and distribution of the end product.

In this way, thanks to a scannable QR code, the final consumer will be able to know certified information about the product they are purchasing.

The data will be made public on the website pelatoinrete.it, which will be online from May 9th, 2019, where for each package it will be possible to verify who the producer is, the location of the field where the tomato has been grown, the type of tomato grown, the date of transplantation, the date of fruit growth, the date of harvesting and the date of canning.

The immutability and transparency of the data recorded on the blockchain will certify the quality, origin and ethics of the production process, thanks to the adherence to the protocol for the fight against labour exploitation.

The project will be presented Thursday, May 9th, 2019 at 10.30 am, at the Auditorium of the Chamber of Commerce of Foggia in Via Michele Protano 7.
