Everipedia and Associated Press to obtain election results on the blockchain

It has just been revealed that Everipedia, EOS’s famous blockchain encyclopedia, has partnered with The Associated Press (AP) to verify the results of the US presidential election, which will be uploaded on the blockchain.

With this collaboration, Everipedia will obtain the information of the results directly from a reliable source and then this data will be saved on the blockchain using a system of oracles. To be precise, it will use the technology of Chainlink (LINK), famous for its decentralized oracles.

In this case, a new Everipedia oracle will be created, which will be called “OraQle” and this data will also be used by other blockchains, as if it were an Oracle-as-a-Service, to retrieve information from the various protocols that require that type of data.

There are many blockchain platforms operating in the predictive market, such as Augur. Everipedia itself has its own platform, PredIQt, which allows betting on a given event.

An event has also been created for the occasion to bet on which candidate will or will not win the election.

Collaboration brings a high level to this type of system, as commented by AP’s director of data licensing, Dwayne Desaulniers:

“AP is the gold standard in counting the vote and declaring election winners, and we are pleased to work with Everipedia to use our race calls in this innovative way”.

Surely the sources for every oracle that needs to have data must be highly reliable so as not to create inconsistencies in the digital world. That’s why such an important collaboration is necessary for the reliability of the oracle, as explained by the co-founder and CEO of Everipedia, Theodor Forselius:

“We are incredibly honored and excited to work with The Associated Press, an organization with an impeccable reputation and history in journalism that is dedicated to advancing facts”.

How will the agreement between Everipedia and Associated Press work?

From a technical point of view, a node managed by both Chainlink and Everipedia will be created, which will contain the information coming from the AP. This will be encoded and processed to be accessible from any other blockchain, as there are many blockchains that have decided to exploit Chainlink’s system, such as Polkadot and others.

This represents one of the first cases that connects the everyday world, featuring a worldwide media event like the election of the next President of the United States, with blockchain technology, bringing names like Everipedia and Chainlink into the limelight.
