Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué new advisor of Sorare

In a press release issued today by Sorare, we learn that the famous former football player Gerard Piqué will invest €3 million in Sorare’s seed-stage for a total of €7 million.

The CEO of Sorare, Nicolas Julia, explained:

“Gerard is not only one of the best defenders in the world but he is also an active entrepreneur and is re-defining the sports and entertainment industry. The strategic counsel and business acumen that Gerard brings to our board are invaluable. I’m excited to have him join our team to unlock people’s football fandom online with Sorare.”

Sorare is a game that combines the digital world and the real one as the various competitions played with these digital cards are also influenced by the players’ performances on the field during real league games, just like in fantasy football.

However, each team on Sorare is made up of 5 players and not 11.

It is worth noting that there are also different types of cards: the common ones are free and unlimited and allow anyone to play, but then there are also rare cards that come in only 100 copies, the super rare with only 10 copies in total and finally there are the unique cards, in single copies, which are the rarest.

For example, the one featuring the player Neymar was traded for as much as $26,000.

The success of this platform is so great that Piqué himself has gotten involved in the project and will become a strategic advisor of the project and join the board together with Christian Miele, co-founder Nicolas Julia, and co-founder Adrien Montfort.

Several teams have already embraced Sorare’s platform: Bayern Munich, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Porto, Zenit and just recently Real Madrid as well as many others; in total there are 80 teams from 11 different countries, demonstrating that Sorare is not just limited to big teams or restricted to Europe.

Sorare represents a great opportunity for football clubs around the world to enter the blockchain sector and find new ways to better interact with fans who can have their own cards of their favourite players as NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens).

Gerard Piqué commented:

“I see a huge potential in the sports gaming segment in a digital economy where the attention of audiences is the single most important unit of currency. I’m looking forward to helping Sorare expand their partnerships with football leagues, clubs, and players worldwide to build the best fantasy experience that exists.”
