New Bitcoin torch launched with Lightning Network

Yesterday, Swiss entrepreneur Luca Ambrosini launched an initiative that is turning into a new “Bitcoin torch”

The initiative was launched on LinkedIn and aims to promote the use of the Lightning Network.

Ambrosini has decided to send 500 satoshi (0.000005 BTC) to anyone who downloads BlueWallet, creates a wallet with Lightning Network and creates a “receipt” to receive 500 satoshi.

Simply send the generated receipt to Ambrosini and he will send 500 satoshi to the LN address indicated on the invoice, which will be received immediately.

He explains the reason for this initiative by saying:

“I want to prove to a friend that Bitcoin works for micro transactions as well”.

The initiative was immediately picked up by Lars Schlichting, who shared the receipt he generated with Ambrosini, adding

“This is not a scam. Luca Ambrosini is a very smart guy knowing the potential of #bitcoin and that every new person adopting it is a step closer to a world with a decentralized, economical, fast and ecological (yes, bitcoin can help spare energy!) payment system”.

At this point Andrea Berruto proposed to make this a new “Bitcoin torch”, i.e. a passing of satoshi from one user to another, saying:

“Lars Schlichting, many thanks. Sure, will do. Let’s move the #torch forward! Indeed, it does work! I will send the sats to the first person who replies to this post with its lightning receipt!”

Previous “editions” of the Bitcoin Lightning Torch

Initiatives like this have already been held in the past, but when LN was still little used, and there were still few compatible wallets.

Now LN is increasingly used, and there are many wallets that can be used with it. In fact, it is not necessary to use the wallet suggested by Ambrosini, because there are several that are now compatible with LN.

This new initiative has the potential to reach a much wider audience than similar ones in the past, and in some parts of the world, LN wallets are even more widely used than the traditional ones that record bitcoin transactions on the blockchain.

In January last year, a similar initiative was triggered on Twitter, involving a few hundred people. The time would now be ripe for several thousand instead of a few hundred.
