La Liga, one of the most famous football leagues in the world, will create its NFTs for the 2021/2022 season thanks to a collaboration created with Sorare, the project that brought fantasy football to the Ethereum blockchain.

Javier Tebas, President of LaLiga, commented on the news as follows:

“At LaLiga we are always looking for innovative ways to offer our fans new and exciting experiences and to broaden the appeal of our competition, the greatest in the world. This partnership with Sorare enables us to reach new audiences globally and gives existing fans additional ways they can get involved with the players and the clubs they love. Sorare is currently the most exciting NFT sports project and we are thrilled to be working together to shape the future of football fandom.”

Sorare’s numbers

To date, Sorare has partnered with more than 180 football clubs and, according to figures released in the press release, would have as many as 450,000 registered users on the platform, including over 5000 monthly active players in Italy.

The statement issued today by the French company reads:

“Italy is second in terms of time spent on the platform, which this year alone has produced a turnover of over $130 million on Sorare for the sale of cards through blockchain technology”.

LaLiga includes footballers of the calibre of Luis Suarez, Karim Benzema and 1,000 other international players.

Sorare in turn has set itself the goal of becoming a partner of all 20 major leagues in the world by the end of 2022.

On Sorare it is also possible to find Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Juventus, Roma, Atlético Madrid, Liverpool FC, FC Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain FC and so on.

How does Sorare work

Sorare has brought fantasy football to the Ethereum blockchain by building a mechanism where each player corresponds to a virtual card that is nothing more than an NFT.

Users, by collecting different cards, can create their own team and compete for prizes and other cards. Teams are made up of five players, namely a goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder, a forward and another outside player. Based on the performance of these players in real matches, just like in fantasy football, the line-ups are ranked and prizes can be won.

Founded in 2018, Sorare has become the leader in football on blockchain. Based in Paris, Sorare is funded by companies such as Benchmark, Accel Partners, Headline and also famous footballers such as Gerard Piqué, Antoine Griezmann and Rio Ferdinand.
