Refik Anadol: 24-hour drop with Misa.Art in Basel

On the occasion of Art Basel 2021, Refik Anadol will release three NFTs on Saturday 25 September at 6:00 PM CEST, limited edition and available for 24 hours for $999 on misa.art.

The prestigious art fair Art Basel, back in action after a more than 1-year break, continues to deliver surprises for the crypto world.

The new misa.art marketplace

In addition to Galerie Nagel Draxler’s “Crypto Kiosk”, another historic gallery – König Gallery – is presenting the works of the great media artist Refik Anadol in its booth and on its new marketplace misa.art.

The launch of the misa.art platform took place on 22 August and includes several prominent artists and NFT pioneers, including Austrian sculptor Erwin Wurm, digital artists Yard, Auriea Harvey and cryptography pioneers Jonas Lund and Olive Allen, as well as net art icon Ubermorgen.

According to balance sheet figures reported by gallerist Johann König, the gallery has so far achieved $210,000 in sales, including $150,000 for a work by Refik Anadol and $15,000 for a work by Jon Burgerman.

Two museums, the ZKM in Karlsruhe, Germany, and the Francisco Carolinum in Linz, Austria, have acquired an NFT edition by the artist Erwin Wurm.

Collectors and enthusiasts can easily purchase NFTs either by paying in cryptocurrencies such as ETH and Bitcoin, or by purchasing with a credit card via a wallet that is automatically created at checkout.

Refik Anadol’s 24H drop

Refik Anadol’s NFTs, presented exclusively for misa.art at Art Basel, are part of his QUANTUM MEMORIES: NOISE series.

In physics, quantum noise refers to the noise of uncertainty resulting from random fluctuations in a system. Drawing on these random fluctuations as a unique realm of possibility and prediction, Refik Anadol’s QUANTUM MEMORIES: NOISE series uses state-of-the-art quantum computing data and research algorithms that are publicly available to explore the possibility of a parallel world.

For this project, the Refik Anadol Studio has developed a custom procedural coherent noise implementation using measurements beyond the classical surflet calculations.

These data and algorithms allow Anadol to hypothesize alternative modes within the most sophisticated computer available and to create new datasets generated from quantum noise as building blocks for these modes.

The piece is both inspired by and speculates on the Many-Worlds Interpretation in quantum physics, a theory that holds that there are many parallel worlds that exist in the same space and time as our own.

König Gallery with its platform misa.art has also chosen to give collectors who purchase all three of Refik Anadol’s NFTs a physical copy of each edition, signed by the artist.
