FIFA today announced a new collaboration with Algorand blockchain to launch a collection of NFTs called FIFA+ Collect. Also, it appears that this is not only a new collection of non-fungible tokens but precisely a new platform on the FIFA website dedicated to Web 3 and where these new NFTs will also be offered for sale.

The collection will go on sale in late September. These NFTs depict the most significant moments from FIFA World Cup matches, both the men’s and women’s tournaments with the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Romy Gai, FIFA’s Chief Business Officer, explained:

“Fandom is changing and soccer fans around the world are engaging with the game in new and exciting ways. This exciting announcement makes FIFA collectibles available to all soccer fans, democratizing the opportunity to own a piece of the FIFA World Cup. Just like sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an accessible opportunity for fans around the world to engage with their favorite players, moments, and more on new platforms.”

By buying these NFTs, collectors will also have access to matches and physical merchandise and other benefits to be announced soon.

The collaboration between FIFA and Algorand

As mentioned, this new collection of NFTs will be launched on Algorand’s blockchain.

Sean Ford, the interim CEO of Algorand W., explained:

“FIFA’s platform – through a truly decentralized and scalable public blockchain – is the first tangible representation of the recently announced technical partnership between FIFA and Algorand. FIFA’s commitment to the bridge to Web3 enabled by Algorand is a testament to its innovative spirit and its desire to seamlessly and directly engage soccer fans around the world.”
