The MetaMask app on Android reactivated by Google

After a week long suspension of MetaMask’s Android app on the Google Play Store, it seems that the main search engine has taken a closer look and changed its mind, making the MetaMask crypto wallet available to users again

The announcement was posted yesterday on the official MetaMask Twitter channel on the occasion of the recently started new year 2020.

“Happy New Year! Upon careful consideration, Google has permitted The MetaMask mobile app back on the Google Play (Android) store! Thanks to all the believers in an open web for speaking out in our support!”.

The MetaMask mobile app, launched this summer, is not just a wallet but it also allows managing Ethereum and ERC20 tokens directly from the browser. This feature allows accessing and using dApps on any browser directly from a smartphone.

A feature that, unfortunately, had to deal with the policies of Android that prohibits cryptocurrency mining apps from the store, leading to a confusion about the true purpose of the MetaMask app.

In this regard, since MetaMask does not offer mining services, it asked the community for support regarding Google’s misunderstanding. Here’s what the tweet said:

“This isn’t the first time Google spontaneously blocked our crypto wallet. Our community spoke loudly then, and we were spontaneously re-listed. Users are the final say in what a mobile platform respects, and so it’s time to ProtectWeb3”.

Within a week, the mobile app for Android users is ready to be restored. MetaMask then stated:

“This experience has made us more resilient, and as a community we are stronger for enduring it”.

MetaMask has over 260,000 active users and is one of the most widely used browser extensions for an easy connection to the Ethereum network and its many dApps.
