Pop music star Katy Perry has announced the launch of her NFTs, in partnership with Theta Network.
The artist will also acquire a minority stake in Theta Labs, along with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which has become one of Theta’s validators.
Theta Labs is working on Theta Network, a blockchain-based video distribution network, and THETA.tv, a decentralized live streaming platform.
The company also recently launched the ThetaDrop NFT marketplace, in partnership with World Poker Tour, with the aim of revolutionizing the digital collectibles industry.
Summary
Katy Perry’s NFTs
Katy Perry’s first digital collectibles will have to do with her “Play” residence located at the brand new Resorts World hotel in Las Vegas, and will be available from December 2021. Pre-registration is already open as of today at Katy.ThetaDrop.com.
The exclusive NFTs will indeed celebrate this new Las Vegas residency of hers, with Katy stating:
“I’m both excited and curious to be launching my first ever NFTs later this year with Theta Network. This is a new, unique opportunity to connect with my fans around the world even if they aren’t with me in Las Vegas. I can’t wait to dive in with the Theta team on all the exciting and memorable creative pieces, so my fans can own a special moment of my residency that’s both a digital collectible as well as an IRL experience”.
This is the first-ever residency in Las Vegas to offer exclusive NFTs commemorating events, making them unique collectibles for Katy Perry fans.
Katy Perry is a global pop music superstar, with over 50 billion streams and more than 48 million albums sold.
Views of her “Roar” and “Dark Horse” videos recently surpassed three billion, making Katy the first female artist to reach this milestone. In addition, her performance at the 2015 Super Bowl was the highest rated performance in the history of the event.
Theta Network’s NFT marketplace, ThetaDrop, is based on a native blockchain that is different from other platforms, because it was specifically created for media and entertainment. The cost of minting NFTs and gas fees are very low, while transaction times are 100 times faster than those of Ethereum.
An upgrade of the protocol to version 3.0 of the Theta Mainnet is also planned to be launched, while in the future edge nodes will also support decentralized NFT storage, so they don’t have to depend on any centralized platform.
Theta Labs co-founder and CEO Mitch Liu said:
“Coinciding with Theta’s Mainnet 3.0 launch, working with a global icon like Katy Perry over the next year marks an important inflection point in Theta Network’s history and a big step towards global adoption of Theta blockchain. With the help of CAA and Katy’s management team, we’re charting a course towards reaching well beyond crypto enthusiasts to millions of music, media and entertainment fans around the world. In the end, we see this as an important milestone towards a million daily transactions on the Theta network”.
Music in the NFT world
Katy Perry is not the only singer who has decided to enter the world of non-fungible tokens. Italian singer Morgan has also recently published several of his NFTs on Opensea and even auctioned off an unreleased song for 10 ETH.
Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z and Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, to name but a few, are also on the list of musicians involved in the NFT world.
However, NFTs have many applications, not only in the art world. We also find them in the sports world with various gaming and fantasy football projects such as Sorare.
